Kindergarten Curriculum

English Language Arts (ELA)

Schedule: Monday through Thursday 9 am-11 am and Friday 9 am-10:15 am

Fundamentals:

  • Learn the fundamentals of letters of the alphabet and colors.

  • Demonstrate the frequent sounds of each consonant and vowel.

  • Identify the beginning, middle, and end sounds of words.

Reading:

  • Read high-frequency words with a focus on:

    • Capitalization

    • Punctuation

    • Correct spelling

  • Emphasize reading comprehension.

Writing:

  • Spell words phonetically by drawing on the knowledge of letter-sound relationships.

Math

Monday through Thursday 11 am-1 pm and Friday 10:15 am-11:30 am

Fundamentals:

  • Learn the fundamentals of mathematics with a focus on:

      - Basic number recognition

      - Counting

      - Simple arithmetic

  • Explore shapes, patterns, and colors.

  • Develop an understanding of measurement and comparison.

Hands-On Activities:

  • Engage in hands-on activities and lessons to practice:

      - Addition and subtraction

      - Identifying and creating patterns

      - Solving simple word problems

  • Emphasize the importance of mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Set a strong foundation for future learning.

Judaic Studies

Monday through Thursday 1:30 pm-3:30 pm and Friday 12 pm-1:30 pm

Hebrew Language:

  • Learn the Hebrew language.

  • Learn to recognize and write Hebrew letters.

  • Focus on the sounds each letter makes, including speed & sound recognition.

  • Practice breaking words into syllables and recognizing common sight words.

  • Develop skills in reading with proper pauses and end-of-line recognition.

  • Learn proper pencil holding and placement to ensure legible handwriting.

Art and Creative Projects:

  • Utilize art projects to reinforce language skills and concepts.

  • Engage in creative activities designed to make learning engaging & interactive.

Jewish Calendar
and Holidays:

  • Significant Holidays:

​     - Rosh Hashanah: Understanding the significance of the Jewish New Year.

​     - Yom Kippur: The Day of Atonement and its customs.

​     - Sukkot: The Feast of Tabernacles, including the end-of-Sukkot holidays.

  • Mid-Year Holidays:

​     - Chanukah: The Festival of Lights and its history.

​     - Purim: The celebration of the story of Esther.

​     - Passover: The story of the Exodus and its traditions.

​     - Shavuot: Celebrating the giving of the Torah.

  • Cultural and Historical Context:

​     - Teach the history and customs associated with each holiday.

​     - Use art and creative projects to deepen understanding & make the

      learning process enjoyable.
